All of us growl like bears, someday this will all make sense

Giant Robo aka Jonny Sokko & his Flying Robot

I just discovered this on Hulu last night!
I am a Kaiju and tokusatsu fan, but this ,the father of all suitamation tv shows, has escaped me.
Giant Robot fights Monster, rinse & repeat.
The acting is over the top, the special effects are cheap, and the plot is pure sci-fi camp.
I LOVE IT!

The series was out of copyright for a while, but MGM got the rights to it and it’s all on Hulu.

And check out Dr. Botanus, aka Father of Destro. What were they thinking?
On that note, the badguy terrorist group on the show, “The Gargoyle Gang”
seems to have been the inspiration for much of Cobra on G.I. Joe.
Masked Blue Leader, Silver Faced minion, and the footsoldiers can’t aim.

Dr. Botanus, I presume?

This is why the internet is awesome. Here’s to you Reuben Guberman, whoever you are!

My search for Dracula’s Castle

When I was about 3 or 4, I remember visiting a store that was having

what might have been a going out of business sale or was just a total mess.

(This was around 1983 in what might have been Quincy MA.)

As I walked down an aisle, there on a shelf was a toy box with Dracula on it!

A haunted castle playset!

With monsters in it!!

Including the Creature from the Black Lagoon!!!

Denver: The Last Dinosaur HOUSE PARTY REMIX

You might remember this touching 80′s animated children’s show:

The show revolved around the adventures of Denver, a dinosaur who was released from his dino egg by a group of multiracial modern California teens — Jeremy, Mario, Shades, Wally and Casey, along with tagalong older sister Heather. The kids taught Denver the finer points of skateboarding and other pastimes while protecting him from concert promoter Morton Fizzback who wanted to use the dinosaur to make money.

from wikipedia.

But I don’t remember the musical intro theme song rocking quite this hard.

It sounds like the volume is cranked to 11 and the bass dial has been broken off entirely in a quest to rock the party like it’s 1989.

That bassline is ridic. Instant house party classic. I can’t wait to hear a remix of this.

So to whoever darkjudges0 is : THANK YOU! For having no regard for audio quality.

I’m reminded of Disco Inferno’s poor mix resulting in such an accidental attack of audio awesomeness.

Anthony Hopkins is gonna kill that bear!

For those of you who have yet to see this survival drama, here’s a brief rundown.
Anthony Hopkins, Alec Baldwin, and Harold Perrineau all get stuck in the woods and have to fight a bear.
Plus some class issues and a love triangle.

I’ll let you see them for yourself, watch the clips.

Here’s the trailer for “The Edge”

60 second version, is pretty much spot on.

The movie is ripe with memorable lines ready to be memed by YTMND.
If you’ve seen the movie, you probably know which ones I’m talking about.

Put it on your Netflix if you haven’t seen it already.
And check out Harold Perrineau, now a household name from LOST, he’s good in this too.

“Where all it ever does is rain”

In honor of the The Boss playing in Boston tonight (and the weather)

I thought it appropriate to share one of my favorite songs from Born in the USA.

Downbound Train is a lament and a dirge, like only Springsteen can do it.
