UFOs, Terminators, and you! (Or “You got your meme in my fanfic!”)
WOW.
The mid season finale of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was awesome!
For a few totally geeky-movie nerd-fanboy reasons.

I thought the photos at the UFO convention Sarah visits looked way too familiar.

This floated about the blogosphere a little while back, mostly tying into some heresay viral ads for Halo 3.
I remember it from a post on digg.com about it. (Do you follow me here? Cause we ain’t even close to done yet.)
But of course the tin-foil hat brigade got a hold of Isaac’s CARET documents and inspected the secret ufo photos! (USING THE EMBOSS FILTER in Photoshop. Just like how you can tell George Bush is a lizard from another dimension.* )

Did the writers at T:TSCC re-use a Halo:3 viral campaign’s concept, which is in one
sense a repurposing of UFO sub-culture event? Yes, I think they did and much to my chagrin!
Because it’s all so totally over the top GEEKY.

And what does this all mean for conceptual copyright?
If it’s just a meme of a meme of a meme, is it really just a product of sponsorship and popculture? A wink’s as good as nod to a blind audience right? It’s all a very grey area (pun intended).
